Great news for our UK clients, if you wish to buy a holiday home in Italy you will still be able to do so after Brexit. This will be on a ‘non-resident’ basis, if you are not spending more than 6 months a year in Italy (otherwise you would be resident in Italy and can apply for residency).For other nationalities, the reciprocate rule applies in that, very broadly, if Italians can buy in a country then that nationality can buy in Italy.And what about visiting and staying in Italy?You can visit on holiday as long as you please in-line with the Schengen rules ie no more than 3 months in any 6 months, and there are no restrictions on renting the property. Should you wish to stay more than 3 months in a 6-month spell, then a visa will be required.
